USoM is a partner and organizing member of the international Anthropo-Responsibility conference.
The international scientific scene has been animated in recent years by the desire for a more visible application of the statute of common good concerning the anthropological remains from museum, ethnographic and archaeological collections. With the arrival of new (bio-) technologies always more efficient and the development of multidisciplinary studies, these human supports take a preponderant place in various current problems. They find themselves at the heart of a more sustained ethical reflection, questions about the appropriation, competition and decision-making power of the organizations and researchers who hold this human material.
With this in mind, the aim of this conference is to bring together specialists from disciplines relating to the study of man around the question of interventions on human remains and their biological products. Archaeologists, anthropologists, museum curators but also doctors, jurists and biologists will be brought together to take stock of their respective discipline and the ethical problems encountered in the field and in the laboratory, to discuss the benefits of a lasting coalition and then to consider solutions to protect these remains, their study and their major scientific potential, while respecting the fragility of resources, the associated culture and their human character. In order not to forget that the subject's original approach is purely altruistic in the case of traditional populations and not granted in archaeological cases.
The proceedings of this conference will be the subject of a later publication.
This conference will be broadcast live on the YouTube channel of the Musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac
